We work with a lot of advanced virtualized SQL Server VMs, and significant discussions from this book for performance tuning these SQL Servers include: Anyone can talk about these settings in general, but the advanced VCDX-level topics are covered in incredible depth. Topic sections such as CPU, memory, storage, and networking, the four main areas of resource management on any virtualization host, are presented. The depth of content is unparalleled in tech authoring. This book redefined the phrase “deep dive”, and I’m taking a lot of notes for future authoring and presentations. The company I work for has created a dedicated page to display all the VMworld news items.If you are actively managing VMware environments with workloads that have high performance needs (such as all of the virtualized SQL Servers that we work on), this new book called VMware vSphere 6.5 Host Resources Deep Dive, written by Frank Denneman and Niels Hagoort, is a must read book! Designed for VMware-oriented system architects, this book walks the reader through each layer of host resource allocation and management in a way that no other book has ever accomplished. You can find the sessions on the vendor websites or on YouTube. I could blog all day about the announcements and sessions but luckily all information is available for everyone. They displayed all their main products and were displaying demos. The Dell EMC stand was one of the largest on VMworld. A beta version of the HPE ProLiant D元60 G10 was displayed and there was an iLO5 demo. At the HPE stand they showed the new HPE ProLiant gen 10 servers and their current storage portfolio 3PAR, Nimble. On Tuesday I visited multiple hardware vendors about their new products. Server and Storage Hardware (Dell EMC / HPE) I also attended a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) session with Tom Corn the Vice President of Security Products at VMware about AppDefense. vCenter Performance Deep Dive – Ravi Soundararajan. Replicating VMware VVols: A technical deep dive into VVol array-based replication in vSphere 6.5 – Claudio Calisto, Nick Dyer. The days were absolutely great and well-organized thanks to my employer ITQ (special thanks to Francisco Perez van der Oord and Paul Geerlings). This was my first VMworld but luckily my colleagues helped me out with putting a schedule together. This week I travelled with my colleagues to VMworld 2017 in Barcelona Spain.
